Farmhouse decor is becoming a popular obsession and living rooms are one of the most important rooms to decorate.  It's a room frequently gathered for socializing, playing games and relaxing at the end of the day.  Most pieces are affordable and can be done by yourself however I recommend investing a little more for a style that will last longer.   Keep on reading for tips and ideas that will help you achieve the perfect farmhouse look you are going for.

Let's discuss slipcovers, pillows and curtains first.  A light beige or white slipcover over the couch is the least expensive way to change the look of a room.  Throw pillows serve both an aesthetic and functional purpose.  Besides being easy to clean, they are also versatile allowing you to customize your room with colors, patterns and textures.  Keeping the room airy with natural light is important and that's why white sheer curtains are a perfect touch. Or if you prefer you can leave the windows open.

Oversized wall clock with roman numerals, french or classic style is a great choice.  In my house I have a mason jar with bright yellow flowers and a wooden tobacco basket next to my wall clock.  This picture shows two galvanized flower buckets on either side.

As you all know, I love plants and it is so easy to create a farmhouse style by adding a few green plants in the room.  Eucalyptus, succulents and boxwood wreaths are my favorite.  Placing plants in a mug, tin can, or mason jars adds the right farmhouse look.  They can be located on a ladder, on an ottoman atop of a metal or wooden tray or simply on the ground next to a window.  I will be writing more on decorating with plants later on!

There are so many inventive ways to incorporate sliding barn doors in your home.  So why not let it be in the main room of the house!  This is one project I would invest a little more financially.  The picture below shows how using black rustic hardware compliments the light fixtures.  The open floor plan is still on homeowners wish list, so interior doors are evolving, bringing flexibility while allowing to join spaces for fun family gatherings or close them off for privacy.

Industrial style decor and furniture occasionally integrated with shiplap and reclaimed wood is a great mixture.  The clean lines of the shiplap soften the rugged lines of the industrial furniture balancing the room.   This contrast is country meets city!

These are just some ideas that you can implement to start your farmhouse decor in your home.  I always like to hear from you so please comment below your thoughts and how you have decorated your home!
